Significant advances and improvements have occurred in dialysis due to new technologies and refined biomaterials. New devices and techniques are today available to optimize removal of specific molecules. New sorbents allow removal of solutes from the blood of chronic dialysis patients that cannot be obtained with classic hemodialysis techniques. In this view, the new hemoadsorption-hemodialysis (HAHD) technique has been utilized with success with remarkable results.
The conference, promoted by the International Renal Research Institute of Vicenza in collaboration with the industry of the field, aims at achieving consensus on indications and patient selection, modality of application and standardization of procedures in HAHD. The final workproduct will be published as a collaborative paper and should provide guidance for clinical and practical application of this new extracorporeal blood purification technique.
